Many people do not realize that they can actually handle some of their own personal injury claims without putting out the expense of a lawyer. If you have just a little basic knowledge about personal injury claims along with patience and organization, you might be surprised what you can do without the help of a lawyer.

Handling your own claim means that you will not have to pay part of the money you get from a claim that goes in your favor, to a lawyer. You also will not have to worry about working with your insurance company either, which means they won’t have the opportunity to deny your claim or even reduce the compensation that you are owed.

There are several types of claims that a person alone can manage to file for without the assistance of a lawyer. If you are in an accident involving an automobile, motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian accident. An accident where you may have tripped, slipped or fallen on someone’s property. Certain accidents in the home and those that deal with products that might be defective. All of these can be handled without a lawyer.

Although you should take into consideration just how bad the injury is. If the injury is extremely serious or you have been left permanently disabled, you might then want to consider a lawyer to handle a claim that is of this serious nature. Especially those dealing with malpractice or being exposed to toxic chemicals.

Even though insurance companies and lawyers would like for you to believe otherwise, there are many claims for personal injury that an individual can take care of on their own.

How much the company thinks the claim is worth depends solely upon the extent of the injury, damage done, expenses paid out for the damage and or the amount of medical costs. Insurance companies have a scale that allows only so much and it does not matter who is filing the claim, whether it is you or a lawyer that scale or amount will not change.

You are the person who knows more about your claim, more than a lawyer or insurance company. This is because you were there and know exactly what happened and if there were injuries you alone know more than either of them would know, so it should be easier for you to process the claim with all the details that are required to process it.

It is interesting to note that a lawyer will probably only be able to get you just 10 to 25 percent more money than if you were to file the personal injury claim on your own. If you sit down and calculate how much you would receive after you paid a lawyer, you might come to realize that you might end up with more money if you don’t pay a lawyer.

If the injury is extremely serious, yes, you will probably want to consult a lawyer, but if it is not, you more than likely will not need the expense of a lawyer. You can school yourself on how to file a claim either at your local library or online.
